Daniel Göritz, geboren in den 1960-iger Jahren in Berlin (Ost), studierte Konzertgitarre in Berlin, Manchester (auch Komposition) und New York. 1993-96 Assistentur und Doktorat an der Manhattan School of Music in New York. Seit 1999 lebt er wieder in Berlin, wo er als Professor für Konzertgitarre an der Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ lehrt. Als Komponist Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen Solisten und Ensembles wie z.B. dem Ensemble Quillo, KNM Berlin oder dem Fibbonacci Trio. Vielfache Preise und Stipendien. Darunter: 1. Preis des Huddersfield International Composition Competition 1994; Gewinner des Artists International Competition New York 1996 mit dem Zephyrus Duo gemeinsam mit der amerikanischen Flötistin Sarah Hornsby mit anschließendem Debütkonzert in der Carnegie Recital Hall 1997.
Als Gitarrist regelmäßige Zusammenarbeit mit renommierten nationalen und internationalen Orchestern und Ensembles: u.a. Berliner Philharmoniker (Sir Simon Rattle, Pierre Boulez), Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin (Ingo Metzmacher, Kent Nagano), Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (Vladimir Jurowski, Marek Janowski), Ensemble Quillo, Ensemble Modern (Peter Rundel), Ensemble United Berlin, KNM Berlin, Staatskapelle Berlin, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Crosstown Ensemble New York, Absolute Ensemble New York.
Im Bereich der klassischen Musik ist er als Interpret, Bearbeiter und Herausgeber aktiv.
Zu den aktuellen Projekten zählen hier: das Duo UDITE mit der Mezzosopranistin Bettina Bruns, projektweise auch erweitert zum Trio (+Cello, Harfe oder Kontrabass).
Oder das Gitarrenduo mit Daniel Wolff (Brasilien).
Allen Formationen gemeinsam ist der Fokus auf Erweiterung des klassischen Gitarrenrepertoires durch neue eigene Bearbeitungen. Ein wichtiger Schwerpunkt war und ist auch die aktuelle zeitgenössische Musik und schließt ein erweitertes Instrumentarium (darunter auch verschiedene E-Gitarren und Elektronik, z.B. im Ensemble e-werk) und die freie Improvisation ein.

Daniel Göritz was born in the sixties in East-Berlin.
1986-91 classical guitar studies with Prof. Inge Wilczok at the Academy of Music “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, graduating with a first class diploma. 1991-93 Professional Performance Diploma and Master of Arts Degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, U.K. as a British Council Scholarship student of Gordon Crosskey and John Williams (visiting professor), guitar and David Gilbert, composition. 1994-96 Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the Manhattan School of Music New York, assistant of David Starobin. In 1999 he came back to Berlin, where he now teaches as a professor for classical guitar at the renowned “Hanns Eisler” Academy of Music.
Winner of numerous prices and stipends, among them: the contemporary music price of the jury at the International Guitar Competition Kutna Hora 1988, first price winner of the Huddersfield International Composition Competition at Britain’s most important contemporary music festival 1994, winner of a City of Berlin Composition Price 1995, winner of the 24th Artists International Competition (New York) in 1996 with the Zephyrus Duo with flutist Sarah Hornsby (resulting in their debut recital at New York’s Carnegie Recital Hall in the 1997 Season), composition stipend at the Academy of Arts and Letters Berlin 2000-2002.
His activities are wide-spread between Classical and Contemporary Music, being active as a interpreter, composer and improviser.
Since 2006 collaboration with mezzo soprano Bettina Bruns to form the DUO UDITE – also expanded to a trio for specific projects (with cello, harp, or double bass).
Since 1995 collaboration with Brazilian guitarist Daniel Wolff in a guitar duo. The duo works to extend the traditional guitar repertoire by their exciting new transcriptions of classical masterworks.
An important focus lies on contemporary music and includes the usage of various kind of electric guitars (e.g. in ensemble e-werk), electronics and free improvisation.
Being also active in the field of early music, he is the editor of SONATE D’INTAVOLATURA DI LEUTO OPERA PRIMA- a collection of the known lute works by Italian baroque composer Giovanni Zamboni, published by Peters Edition, as well as a growing number of other various publications.
As an ensemble- and orchestra musician Daniel Göritz is also performing regularly with some of the most distinguished Orchestras and Ensembles under the direction of renowned conductors. His credits have included (among others):
